The California Supreme Court discharged KE. A. Rowe for contempt in refusing Grand Jury questions. The ruling found the commitment defective for not naming the questions. Rowe was reheld, remanded, and a second habeas corpus writ issued for further argument as the case continues. Sacramento Union reports the ongoing legal confrontation.

The committee includes Kelsey, Ritchie, Davis, Orr, and Warren.
A Methodist minister on a tiny pay faced a trustee over a quarterly installment. The trustee questioned his gospel motives, saying he preached for money. The minister replied that souls cannot be eaten and would require many to make a decent meal.
The legal actions against William T. Coleman and other Vigilance Committee members in New York are slow, with expectations they will linger for at least a year. Meanwhile the exiles maintain surprising restraint.
