Federal authorities traced a major bootlegging operation from Canada to Main ports seizing a steamer cargo and smaller craft. Investigators say the scheme used merchandise packaging to move high quality liquor nationwide.
Thousands crossed the international line into Ontario provinces amid a 44 per cent beer quirk. Bottles labelled 44 proof strained supply as Windsor Detroit traffic jammed inns and dispensaries. Hotels posted profits near 1500 dollars in a day while hundreds of thousands of glasses flowed.
The report states Charles E Erdman, a Princeton professor and fundamentalist, was elected moderator of the Presbyterian Assembly. The assembly debate touched on modernist versus fundamentalist tensions and ongoing church unification efforts among Presbyterian bodies.
In Ocean City New Jersey on May 22 a coast guard named John Holmes was wounded in the arm during a confrontation with five suspected liquor smugglers who tried to land a cargo at Sea Isle City. The smugglers fled in a car, which was pursued by Ocean City guards who fired at the vehicle wounding one man.

Atha Lloyd Atha a 24 year old married man was decoyed to the Spring Garden school south of St Joseph and beaten. Kenneth Werren Themes B and John E Holt all of St Joseph are held in connection with the assault. Atha’s injuries are not believed serious and police suspect domestic trouble as the motive.
Chicago May 22 A new commercial air line linking New York and Chicago with freight and limited passenger service is planned by the National Air Transportation Inc capitalized for 10 000 000 Col Paul Henderson will resign as Postmaster General in August to join as General Manager of the line A tentative schedule has planes leaving New York around 4 15 pm arriving in Chicago about five hours later The system will be radio directed and initially cover eastern routes with future expansion hub at Chicago Subscriptions toward the capitalization have reached 2 000 000 with more to come
Italian Detroit Indianapolis star reports on the 13th annual 500 mile race at the Speedway May 3 with drivers from medicine, engineering, manufacturing and entomology among the entrants. Milton, famed driver and owner of a St Paul cheese factory, competes alongside Benny Hill and Antone Mourre among college men and foreign entrants. The field includes notable engineers and practitioners, part of a diverse, well dressed group favored by 198,000 prize money.
The Laws Construction Company of Salisbury wins low bid for eight street improvements including curbing and gutters. Bids listed: $8142.50 for Laws. $6451450, $99641.80 for rivals Teewning Robertson and Morris. Street list covers Winder Baptit Charles E Railroad Olive Unvation Mitchell and Olive Streets with specific curb and gutter quantities.
An American doctor, Darling, was among three killed when the League of Nations malaria commission car fell over a precipice during a survey trip in Syria. Samuel Taylor Darling of the Rockefeller Foundation is noted as recently elected a corresponding member of the malaria commission. The incident is reported to have reached Baltimore, Maryland.
World motor boat champion Gar Wood plans a 150 mile dash from Albany to New York on May 23 aiming to defeat the Century Limited train. Wood previously beat an express train from Miami to New York in 1921.
