Auto crash at State Street crossing saves four lives

A northbound passenger train struck a car at the Delmar State Street crossing late Saturday. A piece of auto save mechanism and the train blocked the track, carrying the wrecked vehicle 20 yards. Levin Baker and his wife Annie Baker and their two children, aged four months and June, escaped with minor injuries. the mother's and infant’s condition were reported later. The driver’s injuries could not be determined until X rays at Peninsula General Hospital. Witnesses say the driver did not see the approaching train before impact.
