Cave entrance collapse traps explorer and two rescue parties. Efforts by miners and guardsmen continue as the entombed man, Fley Collina, remains pinioned by a boulder after nearly 200 hours. Authorities report no contact since Thursday morning and a lack of food for 12 hours prior.
Government ships and Coast Guard cutters patrol the New Jersey coast as liquor smugglers' fleet, dozens of vessels, 42 miles off shore, moves northward. Shore patrols with armed guardsmen patrol 38 miles from Seaside Park to Highland Beach to intercept bootleg liquor. Superintendent Rasmussen says patrol cars can be directed quickly to meet smugglers.
The Associated Press reports a gas main rupture in West Scranton floods scores of homes with flames and forces about five hundred residents outdoors. Officials shut off gas and crews search Archbald streets for the leak, while families seek relatives across the city.
Passaic New Jersey February 7 The Passaic High School basketball team known as the wonder squad ends a 159 game winning streak with a 53 42 loss at Hackensack. Players reacted with tears and disbelief as the remarkable run concludes after a dramatic finish and tense bench scenes.
