Macdonald Smith of New York led after new rounds at Highland Golf Club in Indianapolis with a score of 68 to defend his Western Open title. About 250 contenders chased the title including Charlie Hall of Birmingham and Walter Hagen while Bobby Jones was absent due to rest after recent British campaigns.

Lieutenant Bettis missing since Monday was found alive in the Seven Sisters area and brought to Centre County Hospital in serious but not critical condition. He sustained a broken leg, a fractured skull, and severe facial lacerations after his plane crashed into a mountain slope during a flight from Philadelphia to Selfridge Field in Michigan. He crawled five and a half hours through forest to a road, aided by two state highway workers, and reported exhausting injuries and loss of blood as he guided rescuers to his location. His crash ends his air race hopes in Philadelphia next month. he previously set a 248.99 mph record in 1925 and won the Pulitzer Trophy.
President Coolidge will tour the Citizens Military Training Camp at Plattsburgh this afternoon. He will travel from White Pine Camp to the camp on an extended auto ride and review the 10 civilian cadets before luncheon at Colonel Hughes home.

Autographed Valentino photos and letters were found at her residence.
In Somerville New Jersey the court admits a card found with the Rev Edward Hal and Mrs Eleanor Mills is linked by fingerprints to one of three suspects in the 1922 killings. Henry Carpender and Willie Stevens seek bail as the judge declines further evidence.
Franklin Upshur camps in Maryland's Eastern Shore after talks in Baltimore. He seeks the Democratic nomination against incumbent Allan Goldsborough backed by Senator Bruce.
