Child Burned to Death in Roanoke Tenement Fire
A six year old girl Virginia Smith died after her clothes caught fire from a cook stove in a shared back room on Commonwealth avenue Roanoke Christmas day. Her eight year old brother was present while mother Olive Smith had left for Bedford City with Herbert Saunders to marry. neighbors rescued the girl as smoke poured from the windows. The mother, recently divorced from Wm Smith, reportedly told the children to pour oil in the stove. A mob allegedly formed to attack the couple but plans were thwarted.

Rev. E A Jackson a Virginia minister and Miss Jennie C Urazley of Tappahannock Va were married yesterday in Salem. He plans to return with his bride to Brazil to continue missionary work with the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board despite expulsion movements in the country. Jackson, once of Abingdon and Roanoke College alumnus, faced dangers and murder attempts in Brazil. The couple will spend a few days with friends before sailing for Brazil.

She died from peritonitis and was a devout Dunkard Christian and mother to a large, mature family.
