The Virginian Railway depot at Altavista Virginia burned down at three this morning, valued at 4000 dollars. Local railway records and several hundred dollars in freight were lost along with Adams Express Company offices and a box car nearby. The fire’s origin is unknown but started in the colored waiting room. cause whether accidental or intentional remains undetermined. Insurance covers part of the loss.

In Roanoke corporation court a jury found W. L. Woolridge guilty of malicious cutting of his wife. He received a three year term in the penitentiary. The attack occurred about a year ago during a drunken spell after he attended a revival and professed religion. Mrs. Woolridge survived, and Woolridge was captured in Covington about a month ago.

Falls Through Basement Window Dies of Injuries
Master James White two year old son of Mr. and Mrs. James White of Detroit fell through a basement window on the street while walking to meet his father last Thursday. He severed his left limb and bled to death before aid could arrive. Remains sent to Salem and funeral held at St Paul's Episcopal Church with Rev. E W Hubard officiating. Interment in East Hill Cemetery. He was the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Sam White and left many friends in Salem.
