Horsewhipped Parson in Fulton Kentucky
Rev. Frank Morton Hawley of First Presbyterian Fulton was horsewhipped by W. W. Meadows after a divorce suit. Hawley, once barred from the Meadows home, was escorted to a vacant lot where he was stripped and whipped, then driven to a train and ordered not to return. No arrests reported. Hawley was highly regarded.

Death of Col. Andrew J. Deyerle in Elliston Virginia
Col. Andrew Jackson Deyerle, a veteran of the Confederate service and long prominent in Virginia, died at Elliston after a lingering illness of chronic catarrh. Born April 24, 1823, he served in the 42nd Infantry and was wounded at Cedar Mountain, later elected to the legislature. Survived by wife Jane Barnes Lewis, and three children Annie Campbell, Charlie, and William. Funeral service planned with remnants of his Bible study and church devotion noted.
