Brutal Murder in St Johns Halts City Life
Shock rocked St Johns Tuesday evening as Henry T Butterworth jeweler was shot near his Jersey street home by unknown assailants. He died before medical aid arrived. Police scoured the area with no suspect captured. a Vancouver man named D C McLain was detained but later proved to have an alibi. Butterworth, 36, formerly of Chicago, had led a respected life and served as Masonic Lodge treasurer. City businesses closed 2 to 3 p m as funeral arrangements proceeded and a charitable reward offered.
