Oregon Voters Urged to Back 1925 Fair Unanimously

A 1921 civic appeal urges Oregonians to vote for a state wide tax to fund a 1925 exposition in Portland. It argues unanimous support will boost employment, attract foreign shipments, and advertise Oregon’s wealth of resources at the harbor with hundreds of ships and boxes of apples highlighted. Banks Combine Business In Portland Area In 1920

The Peninsula National Bank of Portland takes over the Bank of Commerce of St Johns. The merged bank will liquidate the Bank of Commerce stock and transfer deposits of about 100000 to the Peninsula National Bank which will assume loans, Liberty bonds, and cash totaling over two million in assets.

St Johns Club Hosts Notable Meeting At Terminal

The St Johns Community Club gathered in the cafeteria of the St Johns Terminal on Tuesday evening with a full room and guests including Julius Meier president of the 1925 Fair committee Dr Pence and William Killingsworth. Meier spoke on Oregon and the Fair with tax implications and future industrial growth. The event featured Swiss accordion music by Adolph Widmer and progress reports on the Fair committee planning. The next meeting is set for November 15 at the YWCA building.

Mrs. J. C. Scott Dies. longtime St Johns resident

Obituary notes Mrs. J. C. Scott of 102 Central Ave St Johns died October 25 aged unknown. Nebraska native came in 1888 with her family and lived here since. Active in Seventh Day Adventist church since 1880 and the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union for 15 years. Survived by four children Katherine B. Scott W B Scott J W Scott Vernon C Scott. Funeral held at Seventh Day Adventist church with interment in Columbia cemetery.
