A Portland letter writer defends St Johns council against a harsh critique calling the piece libelous and stinking with malice. The Taxpayer accuses the author of falsehoods, defends sewer and street work, and praises recent council performance amid claims of vandalism by officials.
The city’s street work swells as numerous projects head for council action. Since September 1, 1910 property owners on blocks have paid about 30,789 for completed and accepted improvements, including sidewalks and graded streets. More projects are under way or planned, with costs ranging from four thousand to twenty eight thousand dollars on various blocks, and total yearly pavement outlay expected near forty thousand dollars for crushed rock alone.
Connell convened an adjourned session with all but Councilman Johnson present. Ordinances for improving Olympia street from Charleston to Albany and Philadelphia from Ivanhoe to Hayes were passed. An ordinance for laying Westrumite payments was adopted. A resolution to have the engineer prepare estimates for Jersey street improvements with Westrumite was adopted. The last payment covered removal of the Learned real estate office from Richmond street and completion to Jersey. Kellogg street from Fessenden to St Johns avenue by grade and walks was approved. An ordinance establishing the de of Charleston street to Swift Jeward and a grade for Olympia street from Allegheny to Myers street were passed. Windle resigned effective immediately. Attorney Collier announced letters about Westramite for public inspection, prompting Downey to defend the attorney’s work for Bitulithie Paving Co. Adjournment followed.
Randolph Graden states he did not seek the councilman nomination but signed papers after a friend asked him to, believing it to be his civic duty. He clarifies he did sign only after papers with required signatures were presented and that he did so to faithfully perform public duties for the greater good.

Mrs Greene Eulalia Greene and Georgia Perrine visited Greene ranch Castle Rock Washington with Miss Jennie Greene for six weeks. After two weeks the others left. Miss Jennie returned sunburned and heavier from eight weeks of simple life. Mrs Greene notes hens wore overtime while away with a tub full of berries. The outing is described as delightful.

Crescent club members and husbands joined a luncheon at Mrs Sherman Cochran's home. prizes for gentlemen and ladies announced. Sunday and March winds contrasted with the warm climate drawing immigrants to Portland.
