All members attended as Mayor Vincent presided. Items referred to water and light committee included petitions for Edison Reno hydrant and Reno Hayes hydrant. Harrer liquor license transfer to Vancouver firm granted with open committee recommendation. Commercial Club urged pumping gear for St Johns ferry, public rest room, hard surface Pittsburg street, wood block investigation, Columbia Boulevard repairs, and Willamette Richmond crossing cleanup. Grants and bids discussed for Tyler street and Swenson street projects. Willamette crossing remedy planned. blocks and Stanford street assessments debated.

Commercial Club approves new members and favors city projects

At the weekly Commercial Club meeting Albert Wrinkle and Eugene Hiatt were admitted. The Dalles Celilo canal celebrations are planned May 3 to 8 with a major event in Portland May 6. Proposals include pump installation for the St Johns ferry, hard surfacing Pittsburg Street, expanded wooden block paving, and Jersey street rest room. The club will invite merger and anti merger speakers and push for better St Johns Portland train service. The secretary to press Columbia Boulevard repairs and a regular meeting is set for March 10 with dancing afterward.

Feeding Big Snake at Lincoln Park Zoo After Import

The largest snake from India in Chicago’s Lincoln Park Zoo refused nourishment for months, dropping from 300 to 215 pounds. After many failed attempts, a food gun fed the reptile forcibly, using 20 men, a hot bath, and a 50 foot board setup with pork beef mix and pig blood.
