Allen Flinn hosts graduating class at home on East Tioga Street. Peninsula Park pioneers meet with mixed memories, call for teaching history in public schools. Oregon Grape Club, Royal Arch Masons events, local notices, and community booster items fill a bustling St Johns page.
Mr and Mrs Will Lear and children of Goldendale Washington were weekend guests of Mr and Mrs Sam Lear. The Pythian Altruistic Club will meet Tuesday June 28 at the home of Mrs Carl Beckman 815 South Princeton street. Mr and Mrs J R Brooks and children of Seattle are visiting old time friends Mr and Mrs Ki M Moore. Bathing suits.
Mrs Lydia M Wilson wife of Andrew Wilson longtime Independence resident died at home Tuesday after a four year illness. Funeral services were held Thursday at the Presbyterian church with Dr Charles H Dunsmore officiating. Interment was in Odd Fellow cemetery. Pallbearers included Al Cook D E Fletcher J Bohan non C M Baker W G Grant and G G Walker. Survived by husband three daughters Mrs J W Ball Mrs E A Simmons of Portland and Mrs S A Green of Cottage Grove twelve grandchildren two great grandchildren and numerous relatives. Born Lydia M Crouse May 8 1849 in Wayne County Ohio she married Andrew Wilson Sept 9 1874 in Nebraska and came to Oregon the same year settling in Independence two years later. She was active in the Presbyterian church and the Woman's Relief Corps. Many neighbors and friends attended the funeral including Mrs F A Green of Cottage Grove and numerous Simmons and Ball families from Portland.
The St Johns Fourth of July plans urge community support and instrument donations as the band, now around 20 pieces, seeks saxophone, clarinet, and cornet players. Practice is set for Monday and Wednesday evenings at the St Johns skating rink, with contact through the secretary at 200 South Jersey Street.
