Corner stone laid for new Catholic Church of the Assumption
Last Sunday June 5 a large crowd gathered at Smith Avenue and Newton Street for the corner stone laying of the Catholic Church of the Assumption formerly St. Clement’s. Archbishop Christie was ill and Father Burke O S M presided with Father Smith deacon and Father Sunday subdeacon. The ceremony included blessings, the Litany of the Saints, and the placement of the cornerstone. About three thousand attended and a luncheon followed. a parish banquet capped the day.

Pleasing Student Recital At St Johns High School
A large audience attended a multi piano recital by Mrs. Frank A. Rice pupils at James John High School auditorium. The performance featured three pianos played simultaneously and showcased pupils from youngest to oldest with praise for the instructor’s guidance. The program will be published next week. A new Seaside venue, the Coney Island Cafe, opened Saturday with a camp lodge decor and staff including E Duffy and G L Bartlett running operations and dining.
