City Council Proceedings Reported At Regular Meeting
All council members attended as minutes were approved. A petition sought Philadelphia street improvements from Ivanhoe to the river and was adopted. A permit was granted for a menefoot curb on Chicago Street if waivers are secured. Sidewalk on Ivanhoe from Burlington to Catlin was favorably indorsed but laid over for one week. The engineer was ordered to adjust sidewalks to ten feet with county consent, and to price grading and stakes on future street improvements. A railroad grade change on Bradford Street prompted investigation. An ordinance for a 21 year franchise to PLS T Co was referred to the city attorney. A telephone company proposal for a 21 year franchise with staged payments was read by title. Nancy Caples offered 66 feet of land near Point View for a street if grade and sidewalk are done at city cost. Viewers on Modoc Street were discharged and new viewers appointed. The city attorney was ordered to draft speed limits for automobiles. NY Street improvement plans were referred to the street committee. An ordinance for improvement of an unnamed street on His Boulevard was ordered. Bills paid include Electric lights 42.50 J T King 2.00, Guy Shields 2.00, Tall Gibbs 30.35.

Portland Scrub Teams Trounced In Sunday Baseball Contests
Two Portland scrub clubs played Sunday with the woolen mills team winning 21 to 0 in the morning. In the afternoon the St Johns regulars defeated a Portland lineup 16 to 4 as the visitors showed limited familiarity with fielding batting and base running. Lee starred on the mound with sharp control and speed. The Peninsula club plans a return challenge next Sunday promising a heated contest.
