City Council Considers Street Improvements And Petitions

All members attended the Linnton city council meeting except Councilman Garlick. The body referred sidewalk improvements for Swenson and Seneca streets to the engineer, reviewed Whitwood Court parcel assessment, and approved $225.75 in bills. Remonstrances on Tyler Street were to be checked for feasibility, and Oswego Street plans between Smith Avenue and Columbia Boulevard were adopted. Weed penalties remonstrances were to be referred to finance and city recorder. A proposed ordinance by G L Perrine prompted further discussion next Tuesday. East St Johns Improvement Association requested greater police protection. no action was taken.

Oregon to Produce Sugar In New Beet Project

If plans stay on track Oregon aims to begin sugar production soon. Eastern Oregon has grown beets for years, now the Willamette Valley and southern counties join in. Portland public school leaders tour Woolen Mills

School superintendent and principals from Portland public schools visited the Portland Woolen Mills to inspect wartime processes under BL Thompson and Mill Superintendent Carter. The efficiency system installed at the mill drew interest as part of a plan by Alderman to connect schools with industry and promote the made in Oregon spirit among students.
