Robert Maple Dies at 88 in St Johns

Robert Maple died Friday evening at his home corner of Fessenden and Lively streets at age 88. A longtime St Johns resident he helped shape the city as it grew from wilderness to a modern town. Born July 25 1821 in Steubenville Ohio he married Eliza Page in Vancouver Wash in 1897. Funeral services were held at the M HB church last Sunday at 2 o'clock with many friends attending.

Timber sales to fuel Oregon and Washington funds

Timber sales from national forest reserves in Oregon and Washington will bring over 300 thousand dollars to the two commonwealths. Otters Shot Near Portland in Columbia Slough Incident

Cleone rancher M S Fisher shot two otters on Sunday near Portland four miles below Cleone on Columbia Slough after a day-long digout. Pelts measured four feet. Fisher’s sons reported sighting the otters Sunday morning. The female was killed after a fight, the male smoked out and killed. Fur dealer values pelts at $25 each. a silver fox killed nearby is valued at $250. The fox, first in Oregon in a decade, was captured near Mount Hood.
