In St John, a kerosene accident at W B Basey's North Hollton street home left Mrs Bakey dead and Mrs W B Ashbey critically burned. Fire, attempted dousing, and a neighbor's aid caused further injuries. Mrs Bakey, about 40, dies after extensive burns, while Mrs Ashbey slowly recovers.
A. C. Gaines of North Jersey Street has received letters patent for an expansion wheel touted as a major advance. The curved steel spokes promise smoother rides on autos and reduced shock on rough roads, with potential uses on wheelbarrows trains trolleys and more. A crude model is on display at P. A. Drodeon’s real estate office for public viewing.
A Barton Oregon man, A B Alepaugh, sends in a homemade diphtheria cure claiming equal parts pine tar and tar, heated on stove in a receptacle to produce fumes. He says inhalation for an hour or more cured a sore throat in minutes and even a calf benefited, all according to a Journal report.
