Portland Conference Opens with Sermons and Ordinations
The conference opened April 12 in Portland with Bishop H. B. Hart presiding and 26 ministers, 11 lay delegates, and several applicants for preaching licenses. Devotions and the Lord's Supper started the session, followed by questions and business. Hart preached two sermons and oversaw ordination of three elders and four deacons. A notable address by Rev. Ferch and wife, missionaries from China, was given. Afternoon gifts totaled $1013 for home missions. Monday elected Rev. Pratt and A. Winter as ministerial delegates to the general conference at Cedar Rapids. M. Knight and J. Bartruffi as lay delegates. C. C. Paling named delegate to the Mixothi board. E. B. McVicker and C. P. Gates chosen as visiting committees to Dallas College. Final report stationing ministers to churches followed. The year’s results were satisfactory and prospects bright for the church.

Reappointed pastor of St Johns church amid growth
Rev EE McVicker, pastor at St Johns for two years, was reappointed for the coming year by the station committee. Under his leadership the parsonage was built and the church enlarged to triple capacity, and the announcement was greeted with enthusiastic noise by church members present to hear the report.

Sunshine Flower Club Formed In Miss Bailey’s School
The Sunshine Flower club organized by Miss Bailey’s room aims to grow prize sweet peas. Seventeen members are enrolled and seed from a Portland firm will be used to breed the largest and finest blooms. Officers include President Rodence Gulland and Vice President Benlah Maplethorp. The Review will announce winners later.

St Johns Lumber Co to Begin Modern Mill Operations
St Johns Lumber Co will soon start active operations at the harbor mill. Finishing work nears completion and a test run may occur within ten days. The plant, designed to cut up to 60 000 feet daily, can reach 100 000 feet. two engines, five boilers, and ample power are provided. Logs will be sawn before May 15, with a large planing mill and dryer to follow. Local ownership aims to produce top building lumber and boost the St Johns name.

Made in Oregon Exposition Opens in Portland
The Made in Oregon Exposition will be held in Portland from May 1 to 26. It is nearly a free show with displays, parades, fireworks, and exhibits set on display fronts along streets. City ordinances will be suspended to ease crowds as manufacturers and infant industries from across the state participate and freight charges for displays are prepaid by trunk line railroads.
