Editor uses platform to rally St Johns residents for the 1925 Fair and Peninsula development. He praises community, God and home, urges joining the club, supports a lower Peninsula bridge, growth of Portland's industrial center, and active civic effort. Includes notes on Community Chest progress and local notices.
H. B. Compson and W. R. C. held a regular session on Saturday April 2. A welcome was given to the Comrades of the Past and a birthday dinner was shared for eleven comrades whose birthdays occurred in the past six months. Mr. Huntington spoke on Gen. Compson and the friendship with Sheridan, concluding with a performance of Sheridan's Ride. Farewell was given to Com Greene of Minneapolis, presented with a silver pencil, and Comrade Hollister and wife of Newport were welcomed.
The verse recalls past honesty lost to autos that boast of climbing hills and a nation of liars. Narrator sits by the sea and recalls tinkering with aging tin boats, rusted cars, and conscience fading as mechanical boastfulness rise in evening pipes and stories of the remarkable climb.
The Far meeting of American Legion St Johns Post No 88 will be in St Johns Bachelor Club hall Friday evening April 8 at 8 p.m. Ex service men are invited. Commander T P Bugbee urges promotion of St Johns as the logical site for the 1925 World's Fair and asks peninsula groups to endorse the bid.
