Metropolitan Airport Study Expands to St Louis and Surrounding Counties

The East West Gateway Council agrees in principle to a study covering Smartt Field and St Charles Airports in St Charles County alongside St Louis and nearby Missouri counties Madison St Clair Monroe St Louis St Charles Jefferson. An independent consultant will define a Metropolitan Airport Authority structure and financing for acquisition and future operations while Mayor Cervantes cautions against losing Lambert Field value.

Curfew curbs youth presence as police report dip

Police Chief Amrein said curfew enforcement last Friday kept youths under 17 off the streets and led to a notable drop in St. Louis County youths in St. Charles during early events. Public Service Commission approved St. Charles Gas Corp rates as just and reasonable after about 25 complaints were dismissed. A rate study showed the firm’s 3.8 percent return on investment was not out of line.

Ail Proceeds From Flea Market to Boone Center

The seventh annual Flea Market on September 16 will raise funds for Boone Center Workshop in St Charles. Proceeds from booths run by community groups support a non profit sheltered workshop aiding handicapped and unemployable residents 16 and older. The event originated in 1959 and employs 25 handicapped or retarded workers in various crafts.

Auction Bidder's Odd Purchases Spark Local Banter

In O Fallon Missouri in 1904 a man known for loves bidding at sales and auctions bought curious items including glass and furniture. His family awaited dinner as a sale notice appeared on the Post Office door between two and three. Dr Currier Gnaly returned and joked about his purchases while a historic local telephone line route from O Fallon to St Paul and beyond is noted.

Reconstruction project at Missouri First Capitol digs on

University of Missouri archaeologists led by Bob Bray uncover a stone foundation behind the First Capitol Building. Seven students continue the August 26 to September 15 dig aiming to map the north section boundaries and possibly reveal an older lower foundation to advance the north wing restoration.

49 Courses Offered At Adult Evening Classes

Registration for adult evening classes at St Charles High will be held Monday and Tuesday. Over 1100 attended last year. At least forty courses are offered with more possible if interest remains high. Classes begin late September and run ten weeks, registration 7 to 9 pm in the cafeteria. Age 16 or high school graduate required. no residence limit. Fee is 10 per course per semester, 24 for high school equivalency, welding extra. The program runs over five years with broad topics including reading and writing, algebra, drafting, bookkeeping, and knitting. Contact Mr Honey or registration periods for details.
