The United Fund agency runs the programs at 1010 South Main St St Charles and Grace United Church of Christ in O Fallon to develop self help social motor academic and vocational skills. The Missouri State Chapter of American War Mothers forms a local St. Charles and St. Peters chapter. Open to women with natural sons or daughters in service, the national group in its 52nd year seeks volunteers for VA hospital service and armed forces welfare. A spokesman for St. Charles businessmen protesting the use of the Promise of America textbooks in Hardin Junior High eighth grade social studies has rejected the charge that his group seeks to block the curriculum.
O Fallon branch of St Charles County Library offers Sunday hours for the first time in county history from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sundays as a trial through December 17. If accepted, a permanent Sunday service may be added at one or more branches.
The St Charles Police Traffic Division reports 15 pedestrians were struck in 1971. Officials pledge strict enforcement of school speed zones and pedestrian right of way rules. Drivers must yield at crosswalks and may not pass a vehicle stopped to let a pedestrian cross.
