Lutheran student assistant bids farewell as he leaves for training

George Lobien, serving the past fourteen months as student assistant at the Lutheran Church, bids farewell after Sunday services to begin theological training at Concordia Seminary. Harold Teuscher, who completed training at Concordia, will replace him. Work on the sanitary sewer project is planned to start mid October if bids are received this month, aiming to serve about one third of the current raw sewage flow into the Missouri River including a lagoon.

Warrenton Firm Binkley Manufacturing to Be Sold

The Binkley Manufacturing Company at Warrenton will be sold to industrialists from St. Louis. A stockholders meeting is set for September 12 to approve the sale. The metal fabricator has operated 26 years and employs 420 workers. president William Binkley has not announced future plans.

Audit of St. Charles county records begun by state department

An audit covering 43 five year periods starting January 1954 was begun last week by the State Auditors Department. Audits are normally done every four years but the department has fallen behind the schedule due to increased work at the county level.

Housing project set to accept first families Sept 15

Public Housing authorities completed a final inspection of the Pine-Olive project in St Charles. Sixteen of the one to four bedroom units are finished as work continues on the remaining 20. First tenants will move in mid month with 33 local applicants on file.

Building Permits Totals For August In St Charles

August records show 38 building permits in St Charles totaling $462 770. The list includes 24 new residences with eight duplexes. McKinley School addition permit valued at 33 440. Commercial permits issued to Thros Clothing and Henning Oil for additions and oil storage facilities totaling 18 000.

Once a Methodist Church by Edna McElhiney Olson

The church, erected in 1829 by Catherine Collier, is among the oldest brick churches west of the Mississippi. Collier, a devoted Methodist, built it on her property and donated it for the congregation rent free. A colored gallery allowed sermons to be heard by all, and weekdays saw the building used as a common school.
