St Charles Board of Education cancels the planned meeting for tonight and reschedules for November 16 at 7 p.m. in the board building. Dr Frank E Colaw reports the postponement as due to a lack of a quorum and the regular session will convene then.
John Curran, son of Mr and Mrs John A Curran of 2816 Olde Chelsea, earned the Dr William F Smith Scholarship for the school year. Curran is a Benedictine sophomore and the fund was established in 1965 by Mrs William. Awards are based on need and ability.
Senier Ebeling a partner in Ebeling Brothers sheet metal business sold his half to his brother Lewis and will retire after 56 years as a tinner. The brothers have run the company 25 years and the business was started 100 years ago by Frederick Ebeling, with Louis and other family members later operating it.
Francis Howell School District officials urge voters to approve a $1 tax levy on November 21 to fund a lagging building program. Superintendent Gene Henderson notes elderly relief may ease opposition as the district faces a decade of underfunding and costly bond outcomes. Local building needs exceed $1 million in the last four years with bonds unable to fully support expansion. More than $13 billion is invested in land and equipment to grow cotton.
Wentzville voters approve a 45 acre annexation east of the free limits. The unofficial tabulation shows 936 in favor and 255 against. The area includes Continental Telephone Co. headquarters and may see commercial and residential development.
The Borromeo Senior Citizens hold their regular November session this Sunday in the church basement from 2 to 4 p.m. The meeting is open to all members for socializing and activities.
