Project Barn to open in St Charles for senior jobs
An employment agency for senior citizens will open in St Charles next Wednesday funded by the federal government. Located in the St Charles Tourist and Convention Bureau office at 2055 Main Street the project is run by Jewish Employment and Vocational Service and aims to serve eight counties including St Charles St Louis Jefferson and Franklin. The program is free to applicants and employers and is supported by the Department of Health Education and Welfare. The office will start with a receptionist and a counselor recruited locally and older job seekers. The agency seeks to help seniors earn up to 2400 annually without losing Social Security benefits and notes that some employers hesitate to hire applicants aged 60 plus.
