A Missouri extension bulletin reports cattle prices rose sharply in late March and early April and may stay high 43 to 50 cents a pound for the year depending on weather. Feeder and fat cattle earnings hinge on feed costs with local lots rising. operators fear prices may still be too low for a profit.
East West Gateway Coordinating Council votes to urge Missouri State Highway Department to revive the Brown Road extension from inactive status. They plan a formal resolution at the May 5 meeting to back the proposal amid public opposition and funding concerns cited by the highway chief.
About 2 million county youths will gain summer work through a CEPA funded allocation of 185541. Positions pay 2.30 per hour for 32 hours weekly in public service and include the state park program Boy's Club Family Services FMC St Joseph Hospital and other agencies.
Governor Christopher Bond will deliver the commencement address at St Charles High School in June. Principal Dr Gilbert Lauer announced the invitation and Bond accepted saying he looks forward to the visit. The office will contact closer to the date to arrange details.
Mrs. Georgia Greene urges a public meeting on restoring the Francis Howell District to a nine month program. She aims to include proponents and opponents, district board members, and administration. The meeting is tentatively set for May 18.
City officials review current water rates as the water and sewer funds show shortfalls. City Clerk Mike Whitaker says a rate increase will be considered if the study confirms undercharging as the cause.
