Patton criticizes Missouri Highway Commission over 1952 land seizure

Richard Patton of 102 Old Highway 40 O Fallon files a protest letter accusing the Missouri Highway Commission of unethical dealings since 1952. He says a 250 foot land strip for location of Interstate 70 halved his farm near Highway K, paid $250 an acre while others received $500 to $700, and notes access to 70 is now fenced. He complains tax dollars are used against landowners and cites unequal treatment, including a neighbor receiving a quarter mile road while he lacks a 150 foot strip. He says he must cross his own land to reach Old Highway 40 and criticizes the commission’s ethics.
