Fireworks Sales In Area Grow As Holidays Near
Area officials urge safe displays and permit enforcement as the long weekend approaches. A Jaycee planned program at City Park features a morning parade and prize showing, plus a large night display. Another show is planned at the West Clay Drive-in. Police warn of arrests for illegal sales and noisy or unsafe use of fireworks. Fireworks are banned in the city, with fines up to 81.50 to 14.50 for offenses. Sheriff reports complaints of fireworks thrown at homes and loud dispersion incidents. Authorized sales are permitted in St. Charles county from June 20 to July 10 and December 2019 January 0.

Edgar Wolff Named Fund Chairman for United Drive
Edgar Wolff, registered pharmacist and officer of Standard Lig Stores, is slated as Fund Chairman for the Professional Area in the upcoming United Fund drive. David C. Gave, St Charles County Division Chairman, says Wolff will direct solicitations of physicians, dentists, attorneys, parochial schools and colleges, architects, engineers, and some government offices when the drive begins October 1. The Professional Area previously raised 35,013.

Boone Soap Box Derby Dedication Honors Late Leo Douglas
The Boone Soap Box Derby was dedicated to Leo Douglas who headed the event for nine years and died last May 23. Tanner DeCoster, Douglas’s former assistant, is now chairman and plans a top event with Akron participation. Mayor Henry Yor proclaimed July 7 Derby Day as youngsters compete in divisions A and B beginning at 1:30 pm at West Elm Street near Blackhurst School. Trophies, savings bonds, and an expense trip to Akron await winners. 239 hopefuls vie for $30,000 in prizes.
