Public transit favored over highway funding in St Charles poll
A November poll of St Charles residents shows 49.3 percent backing public transit and 43.2 percent for highway funding. The survey by Navarro and Associates, funded by the Urban Mass Transit Authority, explored mass transit desirability and possible routes including rail commuter and express bus lines.

SCCARC Calls 1976 Members for Retarded Citizens Drive
The St Charles County Association for Retarded Citizens launches its 1976 membership campaign led by Jerry Orr. Over 1600 National Association for Retarded Citizens units back the drive with Tony Orlando as honorary national chairman. The group supports prevention research training services and education for more than 3600 mentally retarded residents through two pre schools and a day activity center with United Way funds. Officers include Larry Beilsmith Joseph Luyett and Mrs Altha Merrell with a board featuring Mrs Betty Beck and Leo Echele among others.
