Residents feared a drowning risk at Baltezor Road and the I 70 service road as a blocked culvert left a pond at the busy intersection. A new contractor and highway crews cleared the blockage, draining most of the standing water.
With a June 30 deadline for a waste plan, St. Charles City Council weighs rezoning St. Charles Quarry for a sanitary landfill. Councilman Baggerman urges annexation or agreement with quarry owners to use the rock pit, aiming to involve residents and limit debris while considering long term rail transport or recycling.
John Wolf of St Charles Missouri died yesterday February 11 at Wimner Nursing Home. Born March 4 1891 in Cottleville Missouri he is survived by two brothers Edward Wolf Sr of St Charles and William A Wolf of Cottleville and other relatives. He was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Services were held Wednesday at 2 p.m. Baue Chapel St Charles. Burial in Wolf Cemetery Cottleville. Memorial contributions to St NRE Fund. Rev Donald Burkhalter.
County official assures poll workers in the Feb 28 ambulance district election will be paid after legal checks. Separate sewer district bond referendum left 625 workers unpaid with disputes over county involvement and possible taxes, delaying payments and threatening staffing.
The St. Peters park system moved toward a new 20 acre tract near Country Hills South after Wayne Gross of the Bureau of Outdoor Recreation reviewed the site and approved the federal funds application. Final Land and Water Conservation approval is due in March. Developer Robert McElvoy may donate 10 acres if matching funds are secured. The land mixes farmland and wooded hillside along an abandoned creekbed. Wiegand hopes area youth groups will help clear and develop facilities.
