Deb Kersten Democracy Winner Named At Local Contest
Deb Kersten daughter of Mr and Mrs Etcey Kersten a sophomore at St Charles High School won the 19th annual Voice of Democracy contest. Second place went to 240 Thomas Ch Charles High School student George Webbinks. Linda Acme of Sacred Heart Academy earned third. Other finalists included Rick Amann Nancy Freese and Hatty Morris from local schools. The top two winners received cash awards and the state winner earns a trip to Washington DC. The contest theme was Democracy What It Means To Me. Local VFW Post 2868 and Ladies Auxiliary coordinated. A New Year’s Eve party was announced for December at the Post venue with a $7 per couple charge.

Farmers Tax Guide Available 1960 Edition Issued by IRS
The 1960 edition of the Farmers Tax Guide is now available at the University of Missouri Extension Center for 90 cents. County Extension Director 4B Carfarchael says the pamphlet includes instructions, examples, and suggestions for property tampering and filing 1965 farm income tax reports.

Young St Charles student to miss weeks after spine surgery
Bonnie Feliner, 18, daughter of Mr and Mrs Earl Feliner of 728 Lewis, returned from Firmin Desloge Hospital after spinal surgery. The St Charles High School senior will be in a cast for about six weeks.
