Public Health Needs Meeting for Sr Charities Discussed

A discussion of unmet public health needs in St. Charles County is set for Maylin Wesley Hall at First Methodist Church. The event, sponsored by the First Methodist Church Commission on Christian Social Concerns, features Dr. E J Wipfler and Dr L Garner addressing health unit concepts and county needs. Judge Charles Kinamore will present the county court’s view. The county has operated with one nurse and an aide since last September after Mary Dawes fell ill. Continued on Page 37.

Check for 2500 presented to St Charles History Society

Dominican priest in transition visits Saint Charles parish

Father Albert de Monleon of Paris, a Dominican, stayed a week with the Priests of St. Charles Borromeo Church. He dreams of celebrating Mass at Sacred Heart Convent in Sechteiras, founded in 1818 by his ancestor Mother Philippine Bucane, re tracing the paths of kin.

Three Florida men charged in bank burglary attempt

Three Florida men James Andreu 29 John Andreu 27 and Charles Caton 20 were arrested after a Bank of St Peters burglary attempt. Burglary tools were found at the scene and traced to a St Louis County motel where the suspects were located. The FBI said the men bought tools in Florida prior to the planned robbery.

Annual Antique Snow to Be Held Over Weekend

Several thousand antiques enthusiasts will attend the sixth annual Antiques Show and Sale in Memorial Hall Blanchette Fark St Charlies this weekend. The event runs Friday to Sunday with varying hours and a one dollar admission. Twenty eight dealers from Missouri Illinois and Arkansas exhibit items from many periods. Co chairs Mrs Howard Robert and Mrs William Bagger mar say proceeds fund the Society mortgage relief.

Easter Seal Drive Totals 1923 Across St Charles County

Proceeds from the Easter Seal Drive amount to 1923.50 with 1511.99 from Cottage Bakeries cake sales. Lily Day collections by communities include St Charles 956.65 Wentzville 380.35 O Fallon 345.14 and others totaling contributions to Camp Daniel Beane for Crippled Children and to braces and wheelchairs. Athenian Club of Wentzville and United Church of Christ Women’s Guild sponsor with St Patrick’s St Ann’s Sodality aiding Crippled Children and Adults.

Mayors VictoRy in EleCreD Sy and Sewer Bond Issue

Mayor Vogt won a fourth term in EleCreD Sy as Charles voters approved a 1.5 million sewer bond by 3714 to 1652 after a two thirds majority. The project, to ease Elm Point lagoon overload, includes a second treatment plant with a federal grant of 907,000. Work to start in about six months and finish in about two years on the Mississippi River site. The Fifth Ward gave the charter commission a majority and thirteen candidates were named to serve. Doyle Suit led the ticket with 1601 votes, while 52 absentee ballots remained to count.

School board races shape local education leadership

In Hive School Piquelate and St Charlies County elections on Tuesday voters chose multiple school board members and set two school tax rates. Percy Gillette, a 16 year veteran, finished third behind Raymond Freese and Robert Decker, while Kenneth Green and William Kremer Jr. trailed in other local races. Wentzville approved a Teachers Fund increasing the total school tax rate to 3.69 dollars, with Richard Scotti and Edward Harris re-elected. Orchard Farm residents approved a 20 cent tax hike bringing the rate to 2.85 dollars, as David Kemp and Herbert Farley won reelection. Jane Crider defeated Marvin Meyer in the Eastern District race. Monsanto to Spend 1967 68 on Pollution Equipment in St Louis Area

Monsanto will invest about 35.5 million over 1967 and 1968 to install air and water pollution control equipment at four St Louis area plants. Senior VP John Nupeiten said more than half funds go to air emission controls. Projects include liquid waste disposal and gas recovery at the St Charles County plant.
