Funeral Rites For O C Aulds
Oscar C. Aulds, 73, Choudrant farmer, died in Ruston hospital after a lengthy illness. Funeral services were at First Baptist Church Choudrant, burial in Sibley Cemetery with Masonic rites. Survivors include Ada B. Aulds, three daughters, one son J Aulds, four brothers, seven grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Albert Chaplin of Fort Worth Texas and Bobby Chand ler of Ruston were sentenced to nine years each for burglary in Monroe. They admitted taking 10000 dollars worth of jewelry and other items from Peacock Jewelry. Earlier they received three-year terms on three counts in Ruston to run concurrently.

Vining Named Civil Defense Director in Lincoln Parish
W F E Red Vining was named director of Civil Defense in a special Lincoln parish police jury meeting. A $300 monthly salary was approved. Vining, a Ruston native and ex commander of the Ruston Guardsmen, has 14 National Guard years and remains in the U S Army Reserve as captain. He will work with state Civil Defense and education officials to educate the public and build a program. An office will be prepared on the third floor of the Court House opposite the Guidance Center, and Vining begins immediately.

Interstate 20 paving has started west of Ruston toward Grambling. Atlas Construction's Billy James reports 75 percent base completion on the first 3 1/4 miles toward Grambling, with soil cement and paving continuing toward Simsboro. Heavy rain delayed grading by Carla. Total eight miles span east and north of Simsboro with Bituminous Co handling the next five miles beyond Simsboro toward the parish line. T. L. James Construction and Campbell Contractors also have segments under way or planned near Arcadia and Ads.

Mitchell Dies Early Friday A.M.
A 15 year old Ruston boy died at 5:20 a.m. Friday from injuries after darting into a street at 7:10 p.m. Thursday. Cannon Leon Mitchell of Ruston suffered multiple injuries including head, internal and limb injuries, with witnesses noting the boy darted between parked cars into the path of a car driven by Debbie A. Haberts of Ruston. The incident occurred on Base Georgia Tourlane street in darkness as Haberts could not stop. The car carried the boy about 30 yards. he was pronounced dead at Rus ton Hospital. Police called the accident unavoidable after statements from witnesses. Survivors include his parents Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mitchell, a sister Beattia Guilatt, and brothers Lonnie and Loy. Funeral held at Kilpatrick's Chapel with burial in Greenwood Cemetery. This was Lincoln parish’s sixth traffic fatality this year.
