Watson Hightower Wedding Solemnized September 30th

A quiet wedding was held Friday September 30 at five o'clock at the bride's uncle's home on King's Drive. Miss Judith Hightower and Mr. Eugene Watson exchanged vows in a double ring ceremony led by Rev. A TH Johnson of Emmanuel Baptist Church. The bride wore white brocade taffeta with a pearl headpiece and carried a white Bible with carnations. the groom's best man was John Bucks.

Community gathering highlights October meeting

The October gathering featured Mrs W Ry Steve and Alf Harris leading a group through a recreation period. Raene acted as hostess, Willie Farley drew the fire, and Mrs Sally Barham received a birthday gift for the group. Hostesses Marie Owens and Elizabeth Napner served potato chips cheese crackers cookies and Cokes to attendees.

Simsboro Garden Club Meeting Recap Highlights October event

Mrs. C. C. Cole hosted Simsboro Garden Club at her home on October 13. President Mrs. G. E. Mul Jens opened the meeting, the club prayer was recited, and historian Mrs. Ernest Burt presented a decade of club history. A dried arrangements program followed with twelve form displays. Refreshments were served by hostesses to members including Mrs. Burt, Mrs. Cole, and others.

Reception Details At Truston Wedding

The newlyweds hosted guests who registered in the bride’s book. The bouquet table featured a silver candelabrum with white tapers and satin ribbon. A three tier cake with a miniature bride and groom and pink roses was served. The couple will reside at 215 East Texas in Truston while the groom studies at Louisiana Polytechnic Institute.

Orchids As Door Prizes At Episcopal Bazaar

Orchids will be given as floor prizes at the Episcopal Bazaar on November 10. Register at the door to be eligible for drawings after lunch and near closing time. A cut flower and shrub mart, pot plants, and an expanded event with Men’s Club projects are planned.

St Thomas Guild Gumbo Supper Planned At School Hall

St Thomas Guild will sponsor a Gumbo Supper on Thursday October 27 at the school hall. Takeout quarts may be picked up after 4 PM at the Carey Street entrance to ease service. Dinner runs 6 to 8 PM with gumbo rice salad bread pie and coffee. Tickets cost 150 for adults and 50 cents for children.

The Lincoln Parish Association for Retarded Children held its annual meeting at Ruston Elementary School on October 18. Guest speaker Mrs TY C Biggs of Oak Grove, vice president of the Lavish nna Association for Retarded Children, addressed over 12 000 attendees and discussed progress in preventing mental retardation.

Scenes From Carmen Performed For Tech Newcomers Club

The Tech Newcomers Club October meeting featured scenes from Carmen by the Tech Opera Workshop in Howard Auditorium with Miss Janell Mertens Lune as Carmen and Ben Laney as Don Jose. Other cast members included Mellie Joescott as Michaela and Bill Hudson as Escamillo with Pat Wells and Bankie Hollis as Mercedes and Frasquito. Two pianos accompanied the performance, followed by refreshments in the library hosted by Mrs. R. E. Storms and committee members.

District Meeting Planned at Trinity Methodist Church

Minutes from the September meeting note repetition of Dent, Margie Wilder and the Club Collect. A district meeting will be held November 18 at Trinity Methodist Church. Cooktown club won second prize for its fair booth and three new members were welcomed Beatrice Young Dolores Smith and FE P Cole. Bertha Colvin elected secretary. Reports on nutrition clothing discussed. Meeting adjourned with social hour and refreshments.
