Ruston property owners vote 83 percent in favor of a 2.5 million revenue bond to fund a 14 509 KW steam turbine generator. Unofficial returns show strong support across polling places as bids are planned for November 14 with Christmas bid timing favored for bond sales.
Louisiana Tech completes air conditioning for Howard Auditorium completed and occupied in summer 1940. President Dr. R. L. Rapp announced the project and its readiness for use, signaling improved campus facilities and student comfort.
The Lincoln Parish Fair opens with livestock entries due in by 6 p.m. and the annual Livestock Sale scheduled for 7 p.m. at the fairgrounds. Eleven Civilian Preparedness classes are scheduled in Lincoln parish area schools starting in October. Supervisors say teachers trained to teach the 13 hour emergency course urge adults to attend. Schedule includes Choudrant October 17, Hico October 9, Duracite October 3 and 16, St. Marboro October 23, Ruston Elementary October 17, Ruston IR October 31 and Eastland Elementary October 16, Tuliacrest Elementary October 4, Ruston JH October 23, with sessions at Grambling High November 0.
Civil Defense survival classes started at Hico School in the auditorium. Principal M. J. Barr announced the evening session and urged all adults in the community to attend.
Carolyn Watts, senior at Arcadia High, will reign as Arcadia homecoming queen Friday night when Arcadia hosts Colton Valley. She will be escorted by Bobby Jo King with maids Judy Dorsey Connie Mack Chandler Marilyn Johnson Bob Perit Sandra McKethin Barry Shelby Rirae Rashinson Pat Pearson Judy Skains Ray Jamron and crown bearer Lisa Tenderson. Mayor Robert L. Taylor Jr. will crown her at halftime.
Dr. J. B. Wilson, Dean of the School of Arts and Sciences at Louisiana Tech, will be guest speaker at the First Baptist Church for the regular monthly men’s meeting. All men are urged to attend at 7:06 pm as O. W. Trogan and Red Jeeves help with a fish fry after the talk.
The Salvation Army drive kickoff dinner occurred at Trinity Methodist Church with civic and local club representatives attending. Mrs Maude B Vincent distributed committee kits to district club members. Rev Eddie Morean Jr voiced concern for needy families and delayed welfare checks while noting the ongoing aid calls and the yearlong drive.
Approximately $1250 in cash mostly silver was taken in a break in at Spencer's Grocery Store on Cooktown Road between midnight and dawn. Entry came through a roof window. the window was pried with tools. Footprints and torn shelves indicated entry, with a door lock and key inside. cigarettes cartons also missing. Claude P. Spencer discovered the break in at 7 am.
The Concord Association holds its Baptist meeting starting at 9 30 a m at Temple Baptist Ruston with reports from all associational departments. Rev Marvin Jones of Cook Baptist Church delivers the annual sermon. Evening service features missionary emphasis and music by Louisiana Tech BSU choir. Rev WOR Lawrence of First Baptist Jonesboro speaks. Temple hosts noon meals.
Isaac Glass 77 retired farmer of Dubach died Friday morning after a long illness. He was a Baptist, born in Birmingham Alabama. Funeral services were held Saturday at Mineral Springs Baptist Church at 3 p.m. Rev Norman Tilbury officiating. Interment followed at Mineral Springs under Kilpatrick Funeral Home of Ruston. Survivors include four daughters Eva Martin Dubach Margaret Jones Bassett City Annie Low Gray Monroe. sons Irvin Henry Bobby Glass Ruston Odis Caring California Dover Perkins Raskin Tt W Glass Beaufort South Carolina. two sisters Mrs Clarence Jackson and Mrs Tam Jackson Baskin. and 38 grandchildren.
The Lincoln Parish Health Unit will start giving flu vaccine to residents over 60 who receive old age benefits. Mrs June Maure, health official, announces the program in cooperation with the Lavauistine Department of Wellave to provide vaccine access this season.
Ruston police report a counterfeit note incident at a local bookstore. A man passed a worthless $1 bill and fled, with officers continuing inquiries and following potential leads as part of the investigation.
The LTCA Banquet marks the drive to recruit new members as the Northesns association extends its campaign until October 23. Membership fees will rise by one dollar across all classes. Attendees at the meeting included Ralph Piesne and others. the event was chaired by LTCA leadership with Mrs. Blick and Mr. Paynes noted among the attendees.
