Centenary Gents Edge Louisiana Tech In Hard Fought Battle

Centenary defeated Louisiana Tech 13 to 0 at Tech field in front of about six thousand fans. A Brown sparked the Gents with a 55 yard run and a second quarter pass to Royle, while Cameron scored on the final drive. Tech fought hard, with Riser and Gatlin leading the line, but Centenary’s defense and timely plays secured the win.

Burns Fatal for 91 Year Old Man in Shreveport

In Shreveport a 91 year old man, John Sowers, died after severe burns he sustained when he fell in his room Monday morning. Neighbors saw smoke and rushed to help, a physician arrived but he died shortly after. The accident occurred at the Hanes residence of Mrs. Fred Hearne. Sowers had lived in Shreveport for about six decades, was unmarried, and a former Austro Hungarian citizen. Funeral services were to be held at Welhman Undertaking Parlors at 10 a.m. Tuesday conducted by Dr. Gerald L. K. Saath of the Kings Highway Christian Church.

Mayor Charles C. Gayne praised Ruston for hosting Homecoming Day with a large alum nor crowd for the Centenary Tech football game. He credited city and college cooperation, basket lunches, traffic control, and generous car offers for the parade. Special thanks went to Mrs. Brooks and Mrs. Burris for lunch planning and to visitors from Centenary and Shreveport for fine conduct.

Snow halts transcontinental rail traffic in Trinidad

A 32 inch snowstorm isolates Mount San Rafael hospital and halts all rail and road travel in Trinidad and surrounding Colorado. Santa Fe and Colorado Southern trains are stranded or rerouted, with several eastbound arrivals unable to proceed and highways blocked. A garage roof collapsed under snow weight, delaying local traffic and communications remain limited.

Marks Baby Creates Fifth Living Generation in New Orleans

New Orleans on November 10 Mercy hospital reported a ten pound baby boy born at 4 p.m. Monday to Mrs. Alvin Marks of 1714 Louisiana avenue. Patrolman Victor Prilleux assigned to the traffic court attended with a grandson. The five generation line includes grandmother and great grandmother Mrs. Victor Prilleux and Mrs. Katie Lawrence and Mrs. Lizge Lawrence.

Streetcar Conductor Grabs Foot. Passenger Falls In

New Orleans dispatch reports a street car conductor seized the foot of Clarence Preston a 34 year old Black man causing him to fall from the car. No further details on injuries or outcome given in the fragmented item.

Streetcar Accident Sends Rider to Charity Hospital

On Laurel streetcar No 886 motor man Philip Keen and conductor Forrest Maureaux halted the vehicle after a rider toppled from the rear platform as the car approached Annunciation street. The man, Preston, bounced about 100 feet before stopping and was taken to Charity hospital with possible skull fracture and multiple lacerations in serious condition.

Escape Artist Dies After Barrel Bondage Act

A Kentucky vaudeville performer died after his barrel escape attempt failed. He promised to free himself within two minutes but attendants had to break the barrel as the time expired. State agronomist R A Wasson and staff arrived in Ruston to survey 60 pastures entered in the parish wide pasture improvement contest sponsored by the Chamber of Commerce. Prizes total 75 dollars for first and scale down to ten dollars. a special 50 dollar prize will go to the best pasture owned by an improvement entrant.

Hailstones as large as apples fall near Lufkin Texas

Lufkin Texas Nov 19 W L Barnes who lives one mile from the city on the Diboll highway carried a stewpan of giant hailstones after heavy rainfall Friday afternoon. The stones remained large after an hour in the pan and were described as as large as apples. Residents from Burke eight miles away reported freezing ice cream from the hail.
