Brahman Sale Scheduled At Stock Show

LSU Livestock Show features an International Brahman Sale on March 14 at 4 p.m. in the John M. Parker Agricultural Center. Louisiana Brahman Association president says 33 bulls and seven females, all registered, will be offered by top U.S. Brahman breeders. Bulls are two to three and a half years old. females range 19 months to four years, all screened for quality.

South Louisiana reports rabies-free year in 1989

Louisiana State Board of Health notes all southern parishes were free of animal rabies in 1989 marking the first full regional control. Totals show 57 laboratory confirmed cases in 1989 down from 179 in 1957 and 413 in 1956, with dogs and foxes among the targets of control efforts and skunk rabies appearing in 1989. No human cases since 1953.

Jackson Library Opens Saturday in Jonesboro

Jackson Parish Library Demonstration in Louisiana’s birth parish will launch with a dedicatory program Saturday March 5 at 2 30 p.m. in Jonesboro. Culver State Librarian will preside with state and parish officials in attendance. The one year trial aims to show library value for adults and children parishwide via central library and bookmobile.
