Veterans may lack VA pension pay in Lincoln Parish

Charles B. Carter, parish service officer, warns many veterans widows and minor children may not have received February pension checks from the VA. They were mailed December 31 income questionnaires and must return them. Over 2,000 have not replied, including residents of Lincoln Parish. Contact the service office ground floor courthouse for help and bring any Income Questionnaire Cards.

A M Morris Funeral Rites Held Sunday

A. A. Morris died Friday at his home near here after a brief illness. Funeral services were held at 3 pm Sunday at Quitman Baptist Church with Rev. Rutug Kitch and Rev. Paul Jam officiating. Interment followed in Quitman Cemetery under Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro supervision. Survivors include his widow Evie Morris of Chatham, five sons, three daughters, one brother, two sisters, and one grandchild. Pallbearers listed.

Honor Student Banquet Set By Tech Group

The Student Union at Louisiana Tech plans an honor banquet for freshmen with a 3.0 GPA or better in fall 1980. It will be Tuesday March 7 at 5:30 p.m. in Adams Cafeteria. 152 freshmen are eligible. invitations sent. RSVP via the dean of women's office.

Rally Entry Blanks Sent to North Louisiana Schools

North Louisiana high schools were sent entry blanks for the 1961 North Louisiana High School General Literary Rally. Entries and fees must be mailed seven days before the contest. Speech and music contests will be separate events this year to enable general excellence trophies. two sections run 9 to 10 30 am and 10 30 am to 12 noon, with contestants allowed to enter either section.

Lincoln Parish Surpasses Bond Quota Early in 1961 Drive

Lincoln Parish sales of Savings Bonds in January 1961 reached 21 percent of the 1 percent goal of 268000. Judge Bred Jones, chairman of the parish Savings Bonds Committee, reported January sales statewide totaled 4251006 dollars, about 10.3 percent of Louisiana’s goal. Officials credit a robust start to the 20th anniversary year and nationwide over the counter promotions in banks as part of a yearlong effort recognizing volunteer groups, workers, and efforts to ease social security measures for retirees.
