Peach Festival Beauty Contest Draws 24 Entries

The 12th annual Peach Festival queen contest in Ruston drew 24 entries, the largest field yet. Festival Chairman Clarence Faulk and Edna Shaw oversee rules as Friday night 7 pm events unfold in Howard Auditorium at La Tech. Downtown Ruston gears up with festival bargains, talent show, peach cookery, flower show, peach sale, and parade.

Lincoln Parish School Board Holds Meeting in Ruston

Lincoln Parish School Board convened a session in Ruston with President presiding. Rural Louisiana safety inspections cut defective cars in rural crashes

State Police analysis shows a 1 percent drop in defective rural vehicles after the first statewide motor vehicle safety inspection. Before the program there were 1113 defective rural vehicles in crashes. after the program 461, a marked decrease. In fatal rural crashes the defective count dropped from 29 to 10, a 66 percent decline. Police issued 113,433 tickets for light violations and 55,170 for other defects in 1961.
