Remembering July Fourth and a G A R Leader
A reflective piece recounts childhood memories of a Fourth of July in Pennsylvania with a family link to the G A R. It centers on Eben Rexford, who explains he served in place of his elder brother Samuel during the Civil War when Samuel enlisted and Eben filled his role at every roll call. Samuel later held discharge, but Eben was elected State Commander of the Pennsylvania contingent.
