A heated halftime melee at Northwestern Tech erupted from long standing cage rivalry. Chaos followed as fans and players clashed, incidents included an overturned floor item and a tossed cheerleader distraction, impacting the game and triggering a police response.
Ruston Music Club presents The Elijah at Trinity Methodist Church on Sunday January 29 at 3 30 p m featuring soloists from Gottschalk Music Club including John Tutto Rev G Avery Les and Mrs ZL Odes Mel Fike Thompson Mrs Mary Einneyer with L K Wells and Joe G Sheppard. No admission charge but free will offerings for the March of Dimes drive. Judy Dodds is the club’s candidate for the drive. Also a note that no women are allowed on the Antarctic expedition.
Ruston Chamber of Commerce will begin its annual membership drive Thursday morning with 100 solicitors ready to work. Dues range from 12 to 500 annually, with firms paying 100, 300, and 500 noted. Awards offer public recognition for early and significant card completions, while workers are urged to concentrate efforts all day Thursday.
Lincoln Parish service officer Charles B. Carter says widows, minor children, or parents of veterans who died in active service or after separation may qualify for a $1000 bonus. If no widow, children, or parents exist, the benefit may go to others. Applications open next week with required photostatic discharge copies. deadline January 1, 1858.
Claude L Leachman a well known farmer of Choudrant parish died Sunday in Sergent Boaphel. Funeral services will be held at his wife Mrs Birdell Ledonitian and-sop Laster muh aRton. He leaves daughters Mes Raymond Murphy and Mrs Dev Dora Leachman and Miss Julia Leachman of Chowdrant. eight grandchildren. brothers WW Leachman and E J Leachman of Croudrant and V J Leachman of Ruston. Rev T W Leachman of Minden. S X Leachman of Bastrop. J L Leachman of Alexandria. and two sisters Mrs Zulene Hlaws gna and Mrs Nora Hattzel dw of Choudrant.
Mrs O Smith will be featured at a local historical program with a discussion on cemeteries and local history. Ed Senith of Ruston will present, and G W McGinty notes Mrs O Smith has prepared an insightful paper on seat and na, to be presented at seven thirty Thursday evening in Room 3 of fomax Hall.
Army maneuvers to run March through May center in Ruston with North Louisiana as main headquarters. Exercises involve Corps units and artillery, with Ruston and surrounding parishes hosting operations and residents asked to support and comply with area access rules.
Dr John A Hunter dean at Louisiana State University will deliver a January 29 address at the Howard Auditorium in Lake Charles. Hunter, a Navy WWII gunnery officer and Davidson College graduate, has held roles in LSU personnel, education materials, and Louisiana State Department of Education research before becoming LSU rector. He has written extensively on teacher welfare and holds Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Delta Kappa, and other honor societies.
A K Garner lost his right thumb when a jack slipped while he was repairing a car at a filling station. The jack pinned his hand between the car frame and the fender, tearing the thumb off. Garner, bandaged and rueful, warned others to keep their heads out from under the vehicle.
Tickets for the Chambers of Commerce annual banquet go on sale January 30 in City Hall. Seats are $2.50, arranged in tables of eight at the college clinic hall, with new officers to be installed and several speakers announced for the event in Louisiana.
Parish organizers announced the Parish Science Fair will run March 21 and 22 in conjunction with the Louisiana State Fair. The event will feature displays from primary and secondary grade students.
A Ruston Louisiana couple, Trew and Baby Ways Hays, realize a 45 year dream of building a family home on Tro Stock Farm, featuring Corinthian columns echoing the old Lincoln Parish Courthouse, a mural, custom millwork, and rooms inspired by Paris, with marble tops and unique fixtures collected from friends and local sources.
The Gottschalk Club plans a charity Elijah concert at NekLiy ’Truitt’ Methodist Church on Sunday January 20 to raise funds for the polio drive. Club officers and members will present sacred numbers and choruses, with local resident guests contributing solos and a guest sale.
Lloyd A. Goodin of Tursta r has been chosen as manager of the Texas Chamber of Commerce succeeding J. Gidewad Altdernigan Jr who resigned January 1. Goodin, a World War II veteran and former radio announcer, held key posts in public relations and communications for 17 years. He was selected from 12 applicants by a committee including Bob Smith and Ross Hopkins.
