James P Tharp of Choud Yatay is director for the New hela of Dimes in Downsville Lincol n Parish and nation praise ongoing efforts. Mrs Tharp stresses March of Dimes programs in research patient aid and education while noting 700 babies born daily with birth defects and polio threat until universal vaccination. Her son Ronnie contracted polio in 1961 and remains at a Shreveport polio hospital.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary FE McCorkle 89 were held at 10 30 a m Wednesday at Salem Baptist Church near Eves with the pastor officiating. Burial was in Salem cemetery under Southern Funeral Home of Jonesboro. Mrs McCorkle died Monday night at her son Gordon McCorkle s home after a lengthy illness. Survivors include two daughters Mrs Dewey Heisler of Chathany and Mrs Elisabeth Huckaban of San Bernardino Calif two brothers Johnnie Ramsey of Clay and Bill Ramsey of Monroe one sister Mrs Emma Belle Cobb of Ruston eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. The body will lie in state at the Gordon McCorkle home.
