Louisiana Supreme Court bars legislature salaries in executive departments

The Louisiana Supreme Court ruled that employing legislators by the state executive is unconstitutional and harmful to republican government. It affirmed a lower court injunction against paying salaries to three legislators serving as special counsel, naming Senator William C. Boone and Representatives John B. Fournet and Edward D. Gianelloni. The decision cites Federalist principles and Louisiana constitution provisions prohibiting cross-departmental power. The case returns to district court for further action consistent with the ruling.
