McFarland Post No 2 American Legion plans a January 7 quail supper at Elk's club to inaugurate 1930 activities. Major Perry Cole says the post will provide quail, with Mrs Baskin arranging serving and trimmings. The post also backs naval strength and reports 103 members for 1930.

William C. Stanley, 60, longtime Lewis & Company employee, died at his West Texas avenue home after several weeks of illness. Funeral services were held at Trinity Methodist with Rev. H. N. Johnson and Rev. J. W. Bolin officiating. interment followed at Greenwood Cemetery. Survived by wife Belle Heard Stanley and nephews and a niece, with Stanley born near Junction City, Arkansas and later a Ruston mercantile worker and Elks member.

New Orleans engineers Harry P. Williams and James Wedell build a 300 mph racing plane for the Mian Fly air carnival in mid January. The Wedell Williams Air Service craft features a 30 foot wingspan and 180 horsepower Hispano-Suiza water cooled engine. Test flights start within ten days with entry judged on achieving at least 250 mph. The design uses two section wings, short stub attachments, and durslumin skin.

New Orleans reports Attorney General Percy Saint ruled Bouanchaud, elected district attorney of the 18th Judicial District after Huey Long blocked the election, did not need a governor's commission to lawfully function.
