Dahlia's Noble Hochantress, a purebred Jersey cow owned by A H W Henderson of this city, completed her third official production test at age 4 years 10 months. Her sire is Quildia's Noble fern and her dam Calder Bert's Favorite Queen, with the Henderson Jersey herd receiving broader breed recognition.
Walter Hayat formerly of Ruston died recently after an illness. Funeral services will be held this afternoon at the family home with interment in Ruston. He is survived by his wife four children Addie, Dua, Huciite Walsh, and Mary Jo Hogan three brothers and sisters Flogan of Jackson, Jol Hogan J. of Ruston and Mrs Giusy Edwards of Ruston. Several family members have traveled to the Texas city for the rites.
W. E. Dee, field representative for the National Cottonseed Products Association, spoke on hog feeding at a Farm Council meeting in Ruston after visiting the Ruston Creamery. Dee, formerly Lincoln Parish dairy supervisor, helped organize bull associations and import registered dairy cattle. He will attend LSU’s Farmers Short Course in Baton Rouge August 11 to 13.
F Arthur Hill told the Association of Commerce of New Orleans that Louisiana has soil and climate suitable for tea. He cited idle lands of 250 square miles and an experimental farm of 500 acres planned, claiming tea could meet U S imports of 100 million pounds annually within years.
E. D. McCallum seed company owner R. L. Reese of Louisiana Tech and parish farm agent J. A. Shealy left Ruston Monday for Baton Rouge to attend the Farmers Short Course sponsored by the State University extension division. They will be away three days, returning next Friday, with Lincoln Parish representatives also taking part. Li Chingyun of Shanghai claims to be 251 years old, married 14 times and with 180 descendants.
A Lincoln Parish farm in the Wesley Chapel area reports a season’s largest watermelon weighing 106 pounds, a Mammoth Triumph melon grown by Armour Cobb. His son Robbin Cobb planted and tended the patch, noting many melons nearby weigh about 1 pound.
State Highway engineers in town outlined plans to surface the Ruston to Dubach route. Work is expected to take about two months to complete the project.
