Louisiana Market Poultry Show champions named in Alexandria

Willard Barham of Hico won the adult championship and Mrs C B Smith of Choudrant took reserve champion at the ninth annual Louisiana Market Poultry Show and Chicken of Tomorrow Contest in Alexandria. Lincol n Parish 4 H entries placed in junior purple ribbon group. Thomas Smith from Jamestown earned both junior and grand show honors in the Chicken of Tomorrow Contest.

Tornado hits Wesley Chapel area causing church and barn damage

A late Wednesday tornado in Lincoln Parish damaged Wesley Chapel Methodist Church near Ruston and nearby farms. Eight giant oaks fell in the churchyard, a church roof ripped, and a barn at Wes Lyle Farm destroyed. Damage estimated at 3000 dollars or more. No deaths or injuries reported.

Mrs Kimbell to compete in Mrs Louisiana finals

The article notes Mrs. Kimbell of Ruston Louisiana, the new Mrs Louisiana, will travel to Fort Lauderdale Florida in early May for the national finals. Exemption Deadline Clarified for Lincoln Parish Taxes

Lincoln Parish tax assessor Bud Hightower today announced April 15 as the absolute deadline to sign homestead exemptions. About 1,800 residents are eligible, with roughly 300 processed so far. Of the rest, around 200 are residents of Rus Tes and must own qualifying property to be eligible.

Sausage and Pancake Supper At Choudrant High School

A sausage and pancake supper will be held Friday at 5 p.m. in the lunch room at Choudrant High School to raise money for the First Methodist Church building fund. Chairman Mrs W Gukelly says the event will continue until everyone is fed, with a $1 per person charge and accompanying children. Sausage pancake mix and syrup will be furnished by local grocers and salesmen who will secret OKs. A box of biscuit vna.

Injured In Highway Crash Near Ruston

A 73 year old Ruston man John W. Chandler Route 4 sustained multiple fractures of the left arm and other injuries and is under treatment in Ruston Hospital. Royal J. Watson a 26 year old Shreveport Negro truck driver is jailed in Lincoln Parish on reckless driving charges after a collision on Highway 80 about 3 30 pm Thursday near Ruston. Chandler was driving west while Watson drove east and crossed center line sideswiping Chandler's car. Damages were about 200 to Chandler and 100 to Watson.

Woodard Elected Mayor Of Grambling In First Polls

Grambling voters chose B T Woodard as mayor in the village election, the first since incorporation. Woodard received 1145 votes to Mike Osborne 91, and will serve four years. 205 of 220 eligible voters turned out. Aldermen elected were W E Downs Fred Ellis and Ray B Moss, with 108 129 and 98 votes respectively. Four candidates ran for the Democratic Executive Committee Board. John Emmanuel Arthur D Smith Rev Cooper Jenson and Bessie W Williams won seats. Emmanuel 89 votes, Jenson 150, Williams 144.

Mrs O Neal Dies Today After Illness In Ruston

Minnie Thurman O Neal 76 longtime Ruston resident died in Ruston Hospital after a prolonged illness. Funeral set for Shiloh Baptist Church Thursday at 3 with Rev. officiating, burial in Shiloh Cemetery. Survived by brothers Cecil C Thurman and T F Thurman and sister Mrs O K Huey. Parish 4-H youths win top honors at MidSouth Show

Three Lincoln Parish 4-H members traveled to Memphis for the 22nd MidSouth Live stock Exposition where Mims won reserve championship with a Southdown ewe, earned $75 prize money, and used it to add four more purebred sheep to his herd. Joan Stewart and Dewell Ray Gundy placed in weight divisions.
