First National Bank opens new Ruston home with open house

A large crowd attended the First National Bank of Ruston during its regular hours to tour the new building. Thompson announced the Thursday open house from 2 to 6 p.m. as successful. Local and visiting bankers and dignitaries offered congratulations, with remarks broadcast on KRUS.

Leaders from Five Parishes To Study POW Site Today

Five parishes leaders convene to study a WWII POW camp parcel once used west of Ruston. The land, acquired during the war, housed soldiers behind wire and was later considered for a hospital or civic use. The current state seeks public input on reclaiming or repurposing the site.

Six Cases Heard By Judge Jones In City Court

Six cases were heard in City Court on Monday at 1 pm with Judge Fred W. Jones presiding. Harold Goree, colored, driving without a license, fined 10 and costs. James Adkins, white, disturbing the peace while intoxicated, fined 15 and costs plus 80 days in jail. Virgil Burgess, white, disturbing the peace while intoxicated, 30 days suspended. Lawson Bradford, colored, simple assault, fined 50 and costs with 90 days in jail. Elbert Dunn, colored, assault, 20 Riku Burton, colored, battery, 130 day suspended.

Jonesboro Soldier Earns NCO Academy Graduation in Korea

Army Sergeant First Class Toward Burks of Jonesboro completed a four week course at the 1 Corps Non Commissioned Officer Academy in Korea. He studied map reading and leadership while serving with Company D, 17th Infantry, arriving in the Far East last August after duty at Fort Ord California. His mother Mrs. Tunice Burks lives at 312 North 1st.
