Community notes from Cloverdale and nearby towns mention visits between families in Russiaville and Noblesville, Red Cross canvassing, a large Sunday School attendance of 62, a quarterly church meeting, and preparations for Children’s Day. Wm. Swemn and Mrs. Grace Lybrook were Kokomo visitors on Tuesday, visiting local residents and enjoying calendar events.
Woody Marshall and Ernest Watkins were Kokomo visitors Monday. Bruce Swayzee of Indianapolis called on local drug stores Monday. Miss Dorothy Gifford of Kokomo visited her friend Miss Fleeta Riggs at the start of the week.
City Sealer Chas Williams stated there is no regulation for selling cherries in standard quart or pint boxes or by weight at pound rates. He noted many inquiries about the cherry sale law and clarified the current stance.
At a called board meeting at the Chamber of Commerce office Mrs. Margaret H Walters reports two new cottages donated by the Eagles Lodge to house patients of the white plague as part of the society's care and prevention work.
Mrs. Minnie Carter tied her sleeping husband to a bed and fired three times, killing him. She fled two miles to a neighbor to report the tragedy, saying her husband had attacked her and she acted in defense after repeated abuse. She was jailed.
The Judson B Y P U and Sunday School convention reported 64 delegates present. Geo W Freeman was elected vice president and Mrs Cynthia Smith was president of Junior Union. Honey Creek Township Bible School Union met at the Friends church with a good program. Wr Morrison married Anna Stunt of Groomsville. Howard Dison married Lena L Hart of New London. While on honeymoon their residence burned. Bank block brick work started by Hines and Ashley of Frankfort. plastering by Hodson and Jones of Russiaville. Newby building to rise. Miss May Merrick at First National Bank of Russiaville. Local youths formed a baseball team and raised funds for uniforms and bats.
Figures compiled by Miss Mary Redmond raise Howard County Red Cross members to 4 031 from 4 068. Classifications include annual 717 subscribing 298 contributing 27 sustaining 9 and life 5. Annual memberships cost 1 dollar subscribing 2 dollars contributing 2 dollars sustain 10 dollars and life 2 dollars.
A mass meeting of all Howard county citizens will be held in Kokomo on Friday June 29 at the City Building. Dr Effie McCullum Jones Field Director for the Nations American Women Association will speak in support of the State Constitution and Woman Suffrage. All interested are invited. no admission charged.
The destroyer Shaw completed a record 5 585 mile voyage from a Pacific coast port to an Atlantic port in fourteen days ten hours twenty minutes. Its keel was laid in February 1916. The ship also broke Panama Canal passagemt records, taking only five hours forty minutes, compared with the previous best of six hours twenty minutes.
