Merchandising notes indicate prices for spring items will be higher as stores offer incomplete stock in sizes colors and assortments with single garments odds and ends and lots of two or three pairs of a kind.
Cyrus Brittain died at 76 in Russiaville with Rev. McNeal of Kokomo delivering the funeral. John Fry of Iowa visited his ailing father Uncle Luke Fry who was gravely ill. Sugar camps prep as temperatures rose from sixteen below zero. Eikenberry Brothers ready hundreds of buggies for spring trade and buying horses in Indianapolis. Allan Louks of Jasper county visited old friends. A fire at the Red Men Hall regalia room caused by a cigarette stub burning through as regalia piled atop it. Tommy Lee and Mrs Milo Lee of Elwood attended Brittain’s funeral. Slickpole farmers work on a telephone link to Russiaville.
Miss Daisy Bishop presided as hostess to the Thimble Club on Wednesday night. Red Cross sewing continued as usual and refreshments were served by the hostess and her mother. The next meeting date and location were not decided. Lieutenant Newby and wife left for Camp Shelby and she will join him when he is ordered to France. Lieutenant Newby, from a noted Quaker New London family, trained at Fort Benjamin Harrison last summer and was commissioned there.
The Dorcas Society of the M. E. church met Tuesday afternoon at Mrs. Fred Waters' home with good attendance. Most of the time was devoted to Red Cross work. The next meeting will be March 5 at Mrs. M. B. Davis's home.
The Queen Esther Circle held its first Mite Box opening on Saturday February 16 at Miss Irene Brubaker's home. Mothers W H M S and several girls attended while Mrs. Perry Moon spoke on the group’s work. Mite Boxes contained 8.38. three new members were added: Misael Gertrude Lewis Mary Cox and Helen McDaniel. Next meeting will be with Miss Marguerite Hobshire on the third Saturday in March.
The ceremony took place Tuesday at 11 20 am at the Hamilton residence four miles southwest of Kokomo. Their daughter Ethel Hamilton wed Lieutenant Glenn M Newby of New London. Rev John F Edwards officiated in a small ceremony at the Russiaville M B church.
A farmhouse belonging to Archie Leap one mile south and one mile west of town burned Tuesday morning due to a faulty flue. The building was destroyed but most household goods were saved from the cellar. Insurance covered the loss.
The home of William Marshall four miles west of town was destroyed by fire on Monday. The entire roof was ablaze before the family noticed the danger, but most household goods were saved. The property was insured. The Marshalls had recently moved from Kokomo and purchased John You nk ing’s farm.
The Henry C. Oilar will case was argued in the supreme court this week over title to 160 acres of land west of Russiaville. Previously tried in Miami circuit court, the will was set aside. The suit was filed by Miss Nice Oiler, daughter of the testator from a former marriage.
John Mcllrath of Company M 1st Army Hedge Regt writes from Camp Greene Charlotte about waiting for orders to go to France. He shares weather, drills, duties as possible military police and interpreter, his French lessons, awaiting reinstatement as corporal, and missing home news from Val.

The church invites all members and neighbors to Sunday School at 10:00 AM and a preaching service each Sunday at 7 PM. A weekly prayer service is held on Thursday evenings. Pastor Béwarde extends the invitation.
Bible School Sunday at 10:00 with 11:00 Communion and Morning Worship. Evening programs include Christian Endeavor at 6:00 and Preaching at 7:00. Preaching every first Sunday. Prayer Meeting each Thursday evening at 7:00.
