The Small Concern announces an inventory start Monday Feb 19 with silk velvets corduroys wool dress goods all priced at one fourth off except plain blue serges. No exchanges or returns on advertised items. Shop now to be sure of fit and satisfaction.
C L Buckley of Peru Indiana advertises a work illustrated with lantern slides detailing operations to obtain and maintain good roads. It references 150 acre corn ground near Miami county fair buildings and proximity to the county seat, on the Union Railroad line.
Howard county trustees and Purdue University Highway Engineering Department host a county road school at Defenbaugh Hall Kokomo on February 7 1917 to address road construction maintenance and problems. U S Public Roads engineer James T Voshell and Purdue’s Geo E Martin will lead sessions with lantern slides and discussions.
Will A Laughlin retires as a salesman for the King Kennedy Clothing Company in Kokomo after decades in retail. He plans to devote time to real estate and stocks, fields in which he has long been active with notable success. Laughlin began in the 1870s with Haskett & Co., making him one of Kokomo’s oldest continuous retail salesmen.
A minister in charge of the paper during the editor’s absence received a hostile subscription threat. The minister replied that he would have the editor removed and warned the writer he has twenty church members ready to intervene.
A large pigeon feast was held last Saturday night to honor the Clover Leaf night operators. Eight hours were spent cooking the fowls while cookies and pies were enjoyed by the force. The Clover Leaf passenger train No 4 arrived four hours late after a freight car derailment across the Illinois line. No injuries reported, service resumed several hours later. Frank Evans, a Clover Leaf section hand, was injured Tuesday raising a telegraph pole when a pike pole slipped and struck him on the head.
Rev Stith and family shared a Sunday dinner with Adam Leckrone and his wife. C C Hikenberry and Reid McCain traveled to Chicago on a business trip this week.
Mrs Indiana Talbert visited Ko komo on Tuesday and Albert Hutson county superintendent of schools was in town Tuesday.
The I O O F lodge room will host initiation and third degree rituals Saturday night starting at 6 o'clock. All Odd Fellows are invited. Frank V. Stafford of Sheridan visited Russiaville Tuesday.
